Es Trenc short circuits

The natural area of Es Trenc contains Mallorca’s largest continuous stretch of sand. One of the best ways to discover it is simply to walk. These are not walks to hurry: you can put your feet at the water’s edge, breathe the clean air and enjoy beaches that feel completely different when they are empty.

There are several starting points. From Ses Covetes, you can follow the coastline past the houses towards the open beach. From Colònia de Sant Jordi, you can walk in the direction of the Ses Salines lighthouse. Proper footwear still matters, even on a route that looks easy from a photograph.

Caló des Moro and Cala s’Almunia

One of Mallorca’s most recognisable images is Caló des Moro, a small cove reached by a path from the Cala Llombards area. I strongly recommend going outside the busiest tourist season and wearing appropriate shoes. The hillside descent requires care.

Nearby is Cala s’Almunia, another remarkable place. The water and the rock formations are unforgettable, but popularity has changed access and pressure on the area. This is not a place to treat as a trophy. Current parking, access and safety information should be checked before visiting, and the neighbourhood and landscape must be respected.

The two walks reveal opposite characters of the southern coast: Es Trenc is open and horizontal; Caló des Moro is enclosed, steep and dramatic. Both taught me that knowing an island means moving through it slowly enough to notice how quickly the landscape changes.
